Description
Benzylaminopurine (BAP), also known as 6-BAP, Benzyl Adenine or BA, is a plant growth regulator commonly used in plant tissue culture. BAP powder is used to support cell division and shoot proliferation in vitro and can be incorporated into tissue culture media for plant propagation and development research.
Applications
| Micropropagation | Used in micropropagation of various plant species. |
| Somatic Embryogenesis | Suitable for plant tissue culture and somatic embryogenesis workflows. |
| Seed Germination | Used in research protocols designed to stimulate seed germination. |
| Shoot Development | Supports shoot development in vitro. |
| Bud Dormancy Research | Used in research involving the breaking of bud dormancy. |
Assay & Tissue Culture Media Preparation
BAP can be incorporated into plant tissue culture media according to the requirements of the plant species and culture protocol. The supplied protocol describes preparation using MS, DKW or other suitable media.
- Prepare liquid tissue culture media using MS, DKW or another suitable medium.
- Add sugar according to the quantity of media being prepared; the supplied protocol generally uses 30 g/L.
- Add 1 mL/L PPM and the required gellan gum or agar according to the protocol.
- Add the desired quantity of BAP from the prepared BAP stock solution.
- Autoclave the medium for 20 minutes at 15 psi and 121°C.
Use the concentration and preparation conditions appropriate for your plant species and validated tissue culture protocol.
