Description

Detection principle

TBARS and TBA can react under high temperature and acid conditions and then form a pink compound, the concentration of which is linearly related to the concentration of TBARS in the sample. The TBARS concentration can be calculated by measuring the OD values at 530-540 nm.

Images

Ethanol administered significantly increased the TBARS level in rat. Administering of lansoprazole (Lan), gallic acid (GA) in dose and Feiyangchangweiyan Capsule (FY) reduced the TBARS level in stomachs. (#P<0.001 vs. Con group; $P<0.05 vs. Ethanol group; *P<0.001 vs. Ethanol group)

D Zhou et al investigate mechanism of the gastroprotective effect of gallic acid against ethanol-induces gastric ulcer. Thiobarbituric acid reactants (TBARS) level in rat stomach was determined using TBARS colorimetric assay kit (E-BC-K298-M).

Dilution of sample

It is recommended to take 2~3 samples with expected large difference to do pre-experiment before formal experiment and dilute the sample according to the result of the pre-experiment and the detection range (2.6-100 μmol/L).

The recommended dilution factor for different samples is as follows (for reference only):

Sample type

Dilution factor

Human serum

1

Rat serum

10% Mouse brain tissue homogenization

Note: The diluent is normal saline (0.9% NaCl) or PBS (0.01 M, pH 7.4).
